The Understory is a first-person hack-and-slash adventure game inspired by the retro visuals of the ZX Spectrum, NES, Commodore 64, and so on.
Development on this title began in May 2011 using the same CRT simulation technology that I had previously used on Pink! Pink! Bunny Machine, my entry in the TIGSource “A Game By Its Cover” competition. As of the time of writing (August 2011), this game is still very early in development, but my goals are to utilize procedural generation to create a unique gameplay experience that blends elements of Rogue-likes and “Shock-likes” with the hack-and-slash nature of games like Diablo and Zelda.
Progress can be followed on the TIGForums devlog thread.
